Stud Dogs Available for Breeding

We do not keep the majority of our finished males for stud service.   Since our dogs are house dogs, intact males often do not get along together, and sometimes demonstrate other undesirable traits in the house.  Therefore, we only have intact males that are particularly worthy of passing on their genes from the standpoint of temperament, structure, and of course, passing extensive genetic tests.  These tests are available upon request for any dogs listed below; contact us at nightwindpoodles@embarqmail.com.  Many but not all results will be listed on the website of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (www.offa.org) which certifies the results of many tests.

Bitches sent for breeding can be shipped to O’Hare International Airport or South Bend International Airport; fresh chilled semen can also be shipped to you with advance notice and documentation of proper ovulation timing on the bitch.  Progesterone timing is highly recommended, including for natural breedings, and can be done for you while the girl is here.  This helps to ensure the breeding is done at the appropriate time to maximize conception rates and litter size.  We can also perform fresh or surgical artificial inseminations if desired or if necessary.

All bitches should ideally be completely genetically testing (see the page titled “Breeding Philosophy”) but at the very least must be OFA certified free of hereditary eye diseases (formerly CERF), OFA hip clearance, and skin punch biopsy clear.  Documentation of these can be provided as a CHIC certificate.  A current brucellosis test is required as well. These tests can be performed at our veterinary clinic (www.newcarlislevet.com) but must be done far enough in advance to have the results prior to the breeding date.  Properly planned breedings are never emergencies! Acceptance of a bitch for breeding is also dependent on a satisfactory review of her pedigree, overall health, structure, and temperament.  A repeat breeding is guaranteed should two live puppies not be whelped.  People interested in breeding for “doodles” need not inquire.

We currently have two studs available; both are black.  The first is GCH DeQuetzal's Stryke it Rich at NightWind.  Stryker finished his championship as a puppy, including Best of Variety wins over PCA  winning specials.  He is OFA thyroid, cardiac, SA, NE, VWD, elbow, hips good, and eyes clear.  He is beautifully fronted with great coat texture and a happy, confident attitude.  He is by GCh NightWInd XCalibur out of Ch DeQuetzal's Wild Child en Jasez, a Winston daughter.

Our other stud dog is black dominant GCh NightWind XCalibur, “Cal.”  He finished his championship at 11 months of age with three majors.  His biggest win was earning second place in the open dog class at the prestigious Poodle Club of America National Specialty.  The judge’s critique sums him up:  “Good head and expression, good underjaw, good front, good feet, good neck and shoulders, good coat, nice mover.”   In addition to the photo on this page, he is pictured earning his first major on the homepage above the button for stud service information.  He is from a litter with 3 easily finished breeder-owner-handled champions.  His pedigree is available on request but he is out of GCh Litilann’s NightWInd Vegas Headliner CDX ( a London daughter out of Ch Litilann’s Vegas Showgirl, reserve winners at PCA as a puppy) by GChG Safari’s Subversion, the top winning poodle of all time in the AKC National Owner Handler Series.  He is OFA cardiac, thyroid, dentition, DM, VWD, NE, SA, elbow, and hip (excellent) certified.   He is available by natural cover or fresh chilled shipped semen.
